Web Site Traffic & Rankings – 3 Tips for Improving Both

For Web site owners, there are two things that they can always need more of:

a. more visitor traffic

b. better site ranking on major search engines like Google, Yahoo! and Bing

Unfortunately, unless you want to pay big bucks for clicks by running a pay-per-click or banner ad campaign, getting more clicks through natural search alone is not as easy as just snapping your fingers. You have to think strategically.

The secret to achieving both of the goals stated above lies in your ability to hyper-target the content on your site for a very specific niche. You see, with hundreds of millions of searches being performed every day, you have a lot of opportunities to build content that is targeted in a laser-like manner for many of those particular keywords.

If you want to improve your Web site traffic and ranking, here are 3 tips for doing both:

1. Rankings and traffic go hand-in-hand:

When you research how websites get their traffic, you will find that traffic generally comes to sites in three ways: direct visits (typing the URL), referrals (backlinks from other sites), and natural search (via search engine sites). Depending on the website, up to 50% to 75% or more of its traffic may be coming from search. Therefore, your site’s search engine rankings has a huge impact on the number of visitors it receives.

2. Both can be accomplished with the right traffic targeting strategy:

To make improvements in both of these areas at once, you will benefit from learning the art of the long-tail. The trick is to find very specific keywords that people are searching for and then to optimize everything about your website – from the URL to the meta tags to the site’s content – for these keywords. This is THE biggest secret behind any successful Internet marketer who drives traffic via free methods such as natural search/SEO (rather than via paid ads).

3. Start with keyword research:

The one and only way to do this is to get yourself access to a good keyword research tool. These tools allow you to input your keyword and then get hundreds of long-tail variations on that keyword. For example, you type in “lawyer” and it gives you back a list of 1,000 words like “dui lawyer,” “dui lawyer miami,” “criminal lawyer,” etc.

A good research tool can also tell you essential information about the keywords you find, such as how much competition there is for the keyword and how many times people search for it on average each day.

Harness the power of keyword research and get yourself to the next level in Web site traffic and rankings.
